With friends like this we don’t need enemies

laurabio1I never thought I’d hear it from the likes of Laura Ingraham. She’s supposedly a conservative stalwart, right? Tried and true, red-white-and-blue and all of that. Best-selling books, popular radio show, guest host appearances on Bill  “I love autofellatio” O’Reilly.

But I heard it last night on her program. I heard the little snarkfest she engaged in at the beginning of her program and then later on with Pat “I hate Jews” Buchanan -  at the expense of the Governor of Louisiana in the wake of his response to the President’s State of the Union address. I listened to their chortles and chuckles and marveled at the propensity of certain conservatives for cannibalism. Don’t get me wrong…I’m all for cannibalism if it involves junk food - RINOs, for instance.

But Bobby Jindal? What the hell was she thinking? You decide:

laura-cut-1

Here’s what I’ve decided: the future of my nation hangs in the balance. Bobby Jindal is one of a growing number of Republicans with sufficient courage of their convictions to stand up and pronounce them in the hope that maybe - just maybe - there will be a chance we can avert political Armageddon.

It pains me to have to say this, but Laura Ingraham sounds snarky, petty and puerile, like a high school sophomore making fun of the physics geek because he’s not as socially adept as the popular jock. In this case, her observations were fundamentally correct; it’s not so much a matter of WHAT she said, but HOW she said it and the fact that she did this on a nationally syndicated radio show demonstrates an appalling lack of judgment, not to mention decorum.

Later on in the program she chatted with Pat Buchanan - a washed up, paleo-conservative, anti-Semite - and together they sniped at a man who did more to positively affect peoples’ lives in two years than either of these nimrods have done in their entire chattering lives.

laura-cut-2

Sorry, but I will not sit still while the likes of a whiny, adenoidal, Ann Coulter wannabe tears down one of the brightest prospects in the Republican constellation because he doesn’t fit her template of “Obama Perfect.”

Here’s a newsflash, Laura: despite your obsession with style over substance, the future of the Republican Party and ultimately of the United States hinges on a return to the conservative principles of Ronald Reagan - not the prettiest contestant appearing on American Idol. The fact that Bobby Jindal doesn’t fit your preconceived fantasy of Marlboro Man meets Ronald Reagan in a menage a trois with Barry Obama in no way detracts from the substance of Governor Jindal’s response. If you think for a moment the only way to combat the Man-Child President is to confront his styrofoam columns with pretty scenery of our own, then be prepared for defeat and disappointment, because no one does flummery and fakery better than the Democrats. If you want to help the cause, then offer more praise and constructive criticism and less adolescent snark.

Now go to blackboard and write 100 times the 11th Commandment: “I will not speak ill of fellow conservatives.”

  1. I heard that as well. She also gets mad when People say things nice about ones that she doesn’t like. That to me is petty like the Democrats play all the time. Jindal is a great man and he has the potential to become more that a Governor. Laura at times has acted like a spoiled little girl. That is the Democrats games that they play. Come on Laura start thinking about who and what you are suppose to stand for.

  2. I am shocked she went this far! While some of her criticism is correct on how Jindal could have been better; this does very much come across as Laura being petty and snarkish.

For years I have wondered WHY she keeps having Buchanan on. I have never understood why Human Events allows him to be connected to them.

As I said on another thread here, I think there are many reasons why some folks were disappointed with Jindal’s delivery, but Laura’s problem with him saying “my Mom and Dad” is not legit in my book. I found it to be endearing and a slice of old fashionedness that is missing in out society.

Does anyone remember an article that ran during the election that said most people either read or receive information on the level of 7th graders or some such notion? Seems like there was an analysis during the election as to why politicians will speak at times as if they are talking to children. With the ignorance level across the fruited plains being at an all time high, it is no shock to me that Mr. Jindal would speak at times in a manner that some might find childish, or not as mature as they thing he should have. Not everyone out there graduated from Dartmouth and went on to law school. Just a thought.

  3. I feel ya, Manly, but this appears to be rant-come-lately to me.

Ingraham has always been snarky to everyone on everything. I don’t say this in defense of her. On the contrary, it’s why I usually change the channel or listen to something else when she’s on. Her whole schtick is to rant like a mental patient about anything that doesn’t fit her narrow, personal view.

That said, Jindal was bad. He sounded like Bobby Brady, first pleading for acceptance of his White House superiour, then moving to long winded personal stories that served no purpose other than to try and sound “folksy” and relate to the common boob, before finally moving to watered down red meat smoothies that maintained his initial pleading tone of “I am sorry to differ with your Supreme Awesomeness, but sometimes I think that maybe wasting a trillion dollars on frisbee parks is a bad thing… maybe in certain circumstances…”

In Jindal’s defense, this is not what he’s rightfully known for. He’s a strong, engaging speaker with a brilliant mind, akin to a steel trap, and a normally sincere, down to earth delivery. His rebuttal was none of these things. It was, however, another example of how GOP speech writers and coaches can take a brilliant, articulate person and reduce them to a bumbling fool in a single speech.

In short, Ingraham is an idiot; but I will grudgingly go along with her on this one. We need to give the GOP both barrels when they repeatedly turn excellent politicians in the same Palin-esque caricatures we saw during the campaign.

    Let Jindal be Jindal.

  4. Manly,

She is right, you have let your emotions over power your thoughts. The republicans do not have a speaker that is the equivalent of the Chosen One. Think about it, he gives eloquent speeches in which he says absolutely nothing that will cling to him in the back lash. “Words, just words”. There are many republicans out there that could unite this country, but they lack the communication, and charismatic abilities of Obama.

This is unfortunate as the public is swayed by charisma and flourish and unable to, or does not want to understand what a person is saying. Hunter, Tancredo, Jindal, Palin all put it out there in plain concise phrases, yet the public lacks the capabilities of being able to think through the statements and understand what they are being told. These are the type of leaders that expect you to be able to sort the facts out digest them, and then proceed on with a solution with out being hand held through the process. Obama is able to stimulate the concept of an idea, make you believe it, waltz all around it, and never, never have it be able to touch him.

So she is right, but for the wrong reason, it’s the people listening. In general, the public does not want cold hard blunt facts, they want flourish and the promise of Nirvana.

  5. Well put Manly.

This is part of my ongoing complaint of these conservative pundits, is that they are playing solitaire trying to save the union with their individualistic mindset shows, that focus on having a “unique and different view” than their counterparts…. as if…. having a unique but discombobulated view has any merit.

No, on the contrary what has merit and enduring value, is the truth.

And the truth is that Jindal is young and doesn’t have the experience delivering before a national audience, yet, as Reagan did.

Reagan didn’t either when he first started public speaking. As a matter of fact, Reagan bloomed late in life.

This is what Laura SHOULD HAVE FOCUSED ON!
Then she could’ve given him tips, soberly and earnestly, encouragingly rather than disparagingly as ANY GOOD woman should do!!

[Herein commences an absurd but equally toned role play to demonstrate what she did wrong - something only Mad Dog can do]

Instead she comes off as a whiny little bitch, that is not getting it, that needs a STRONG man in her life that can stand up to her and slap her around, put her into her proper place and teach her how to be a good woman!!

I am (sort of) regretting that I didn’t ask her out when I met her at her book signing tour in San Antonio. I really think that I could teach her how to be a GOOD woman. (I guess I should’ve made up mind between Ann Coulter and Laura in advance).
I think Laura went off the deep end adopting a child WITHOUT a husband!! Because now, she thinks she can go through life without a husband, but the truth is, no woman can, and, remain balanced in life. God made them to have a husband that is equal and can keep their emotional tirades to a balanced minimum (but I am losing hope for Laura, but maybe in some other life I will be given a second chance and put her into her place).

[Herein ends an absurd but equally toned role play to demonstrate what she did wrong - something only Mad Dog can do]

Now you see what I just did? I did an absurd role play to demonstrate how Laura is being absurd with her emotional tirade on Jindal!!

Yea I could’ve said the same truths very differently in admonishing her on how to behave. And so could she be much more constructive on instructing Jindal.

That is the point of my role play…. to show you the difference.

  6. Damiano on February 26, 2009 at 11:43 am and N4646W on February 26, 2009 at 12:00 pm

You BOTH missed my point. My gripe with Laura Ingraham (other than the fact that she attempts - and fails - to channel Ann Coulter)is not with WHAT she said, but HOW, WHEN and WHERE she said it.

  7. Mad Dog on February 26, 2009 at 12:12 pm

Since your post was so long I didn’t highlight the whole post. You are right. It is not the norm for a woman to adopt a child and think they don’t need a husband. It is important for children to be with a mother and father. Some situations do happen. But where is the morals of some? What type of statement is that when a woman brags that she doesn’t need a hubby to have a child? Look at Octo Mom. Excellent point.

  8. Sheebe,
Laura should’ve focused on getting an equally strong husband (me, not that I gave her a proper chance, yet) instead of adopting a child.

If Mitt Romney says, and he is right, that couples should wait until marriage to have kids, than that should’ve been Laura’s cue that she should do whatever it takes to get a husband first, like start being obedient to a man that is as good as her (me).

  9. …but HOW, WHEN and WHERE she said it.

How I will go along with you on 100%. When and Where, not so much.

  10. Damiano, the WHERE and WHEN, shoud’ve been in a private email and letter to Jindal, and then maybe….. said something on the air about how she wants to encourage him to improve his delivery.

If Laura doesn’t change her “bitchy attitude” then she will become irrelevant in the next Reagan revolution!!

She should first learn how to be a good woman… from me.

  11. You BOTH missed my point. My gripe with Laura Ingraham (other than the fact that she attempts - and fails - to channel Ann Coulter)is not with WHAT she said, but HOW, WHEN and WHERE she said it.

But that is her type of show. I think a lot of times she puts things out there as pure sarcasm just to make people use their grey matter. It is up to us, the public, to sort through these topics and draw a RATIONAL conclusion. Hell, I don’t always agree with Rush, Bortz and Hannity, well he missed his calling as a cheerleader. Laura has been replaced in our area by Dennis Miller. Now there is a form of communication that I think Laura is trying to imitate, but misses. Again the eloquence factor steps in.

Oh well, my view of reality sucks any ways. Reality, what a concept!

  12. N4646W sez,
Now there is a form of communication that I think Laura is trying to imitate, but misses. Again the eloquence factor steps in.

That’s a nice way of saying that she is bitchy, because…. she doesn’t get it.

  13. Manly,

I guess my point is that we take these entertainers too seriously. Other than Dornan, how many have taken the bull by the horns and run for office? How many are willing to go through the effort to straighten the Republic out? Just saying.

  14. N4646W sez,

I guess my point is that we take these entertainers too seriously.

    BINGO!!

We have a winner on aisle thirteen!!

This is also why they will become irrelevant in the coming Reagan revolution as long as they are playing solitaire!!

What the hell has this country done except slouch towards socialism since talk radio’s dominance?

    Next question, please.

  15. Just an aside, strange that these comments are numbered viewing them from my Blackberry, but not on my desktop (Firefox), fwiw.

  16. Again, I am not defending Ingraham. She’s a snarky bitch. Always has been, always will be. Still, I disagree with what I perceive to the be the notion here that conservative talk show hosts should essentially downplay their opinion.

Like I said, I can go along with the How of things. But I feel that suggesting that the When and Where are inappropriate leads us away from an important point.

The GOP, as a whole, is abysmally failing to strongly and convincingly deliver a consistent message that is true to the party’s fundamental principles. Even more important, it is failing to unabashedly stand up for it’s core principles in the face of adversity and instead opts, time after time, for a weak, subservient, concessionary position.

As I understand it, this is essence of the hard-core conservatives beef with McCain. He’s too willing to concede points and support the other side on issues that are contrary to our core interests.

Jindal, in all his other public speeches that I have seen, IS NOT a squirmy, spineless weasel like some others and the furthest thing from our RINO friends, like Specter, Snowe and Collins. Yet, his speeches content and delivery was weak, conciliatory and spent half it’s time praising The One for the profound achievement of being black and off topic, sappy background stories. That is not the Jindal I thought I knew nor is it the appropriate message for a minority party who is trying to keep our country from dissolving 233 years of success into an idealized version of socialism/ communism.

My biggest beef with our party is that we tend to go for “quiet and respectful” all the time while neglecting the fact that were a opposing a vocal, ignorant majority who only responds to who talks the loudest about promoting victimhood. We’re fighting a guerrilla war whilst wearing bright red coats and taking tea time off from the battle. Yes, we need to be consistent in demonstrating the value of our principles, but we cannot continue to allow the left to shout in belligerence from the rooftops while we quietly respect them for their ideas. We have to be willing to call wrong wrong, in no uncertain terms.

That starts with policing our own and ensuring that we speak proudly of the principle of this party that have consistently lead to success for this nation. The GOP has been lax in this regard and in it’s performance in it’s elected offices. It has proven utterly incapable of policing itself, so it’s up to us… and unfortunately idiot radio blowhards… to call them out and get them back on track.

  17. Mad Dog on February 26, 2009 at 12:12 pm: Yea I could’ve said the same truths very differently…

TRUTHS, Mad Dog?? Undoubtedly your second head has completely obliterated what little was left in the first.

Nice try to cloak it as “absurd role play” Alas, the word “truths” in the end, gave you away.

I would prefer a life tortured with incessant vertigo than one ” balanced” by the likes of you.

I prefer the “emotional tirades” of womenfolk to the ludicrous imaginings of men who believe you need but ask and women (aka: incomplete beings) will rush to you like the damsels in distress you imagine us to be.

And the only dragon I see needs slaying in this scenerio is… well… you know, somewhere between your legs.

What can I say? Every “absurd” role play deserves another…

  18. Charlotte,
Mad Dog has reached nirvana, so there’s no point in coming up against me, as I am bigger, better and smarter.

And as an aside, I only rescue damsels who are on emotional tirades, not those who are in distress, (and there is a difference).

  19. Mad Dog: I am bigger, better and smarter.

Ah, yes. That’s what was missing out of your first absurd role play. Your is profile is now complete. I rest my case.

  20. This is going to be interesting if Palin and Jindal debate.

This could break the GOP for sure….

  21. Charlotte,
Are you still working on this site?

Because if you are, then I need these comment posts numbered, just like I see them on Blackberry.
If you don’t know what I mean then go out and buy a Blackberry and see for yourself.

    *Doing imitation of Walter Williams*

Then when you are done with that, I have some trees that need to be trimmed and the grass needs to be mowed as well.

Then.. bring me some fine wine to celebrate the work you have done.

  22. We need to learn how to not eat our own.

  23. Sorry, Mad Dog. Your fantasy ended up in that comment at 12:12 pm.

You’re back in the real world now.

Don’t worry, you’ll get used to it.

  24. Charlotte,
unlike you disobedient women, my life is not a fantasy, because the woman always adore me and they kick themselves when they let me go.

  25. Ok, Mad Dog. I surrender. (I don’t want to have to kick myself later) ;-)

  26. Charlotte,
unlike you disobedient women, my life is not a fantasy, because the woman always adore me and they kick themselves when they let me go.

    You seriously need to stop.

  27. I didn’t start this, why should I be the one to stop it?

Laura started this by disparagingly criticizing a really good, up and coming Republican leader and true to the bitch that she is, preceded to tear him down instead of encouraging and building him up, and as such needs to be trained in the ways of a woman as an encourager (the way God made women) even in the midst of constructively criticizing him.

As it is, what she did isn’t constructive and then you women wonder why men turn out bad!?

Until I hear an apology from Laura I’m not quitting.

  28. Mad Dog, outside of “Mad” what type of dog are you, what breed?

Laura’s always been a bitch. There are a few right in front of us. We just don’t point it out until something like this happens.

  29. Dorothy,
I’m a German Shepard with touch of Pitbull, whom are always smart, nimble, quick-footed, very loyal to and protective of it’s owner and next of kin.

  30. True that, Mad Dog. You picked two good ones, especially that German Shepard one. A fine lady would really tame your Pitbull braggings.

Dorothy Parker on February 26, 2009 at 5:20 PM
  31. I cannot be tamed.

I can only be appeased, and then only for a little while.

  32. Mad Dog on February 26, 2009 at 5:40 pm: I cannot be tamed. I can only be appeased, and then only for a little while.

And if you are not careful, you can also be tranquilized and then put to sleep.

  33. I cannot be tamed.

I can only be appeased, and then only for a little while.

A smart lady woudn’t attempt to “tame” you.

And on the “only for a little while”, you obviously haven’t found the right mastress.

Dorothy Parker on February 26, 2009 at 6:39 PM
  34. I haven’t found the right mistress, huh?

    Maybe, maybe not.
    We shall see.
    ;)

  35. Mad Dog on February 26, 2009 at 3:19 pm
    I’m a German Shepherd…

“The German Shepherd is a strong, sturdy breed, standing twenty-two to twenty-six inches at the shoulder and weighing anywhere between sixty and one hundred and ten pounds.”

Darn. Sorry, Mad Dog. I have a thing about heights.

  36. BTW We are working on revamping the comment section. Should be up by next week.
    Thanks for the input, MD

  37. Don’t flirt with anything you are scared of now, Charlotte.

And improving the comments section… that would be good for the Republic and thanks for all that you do.

  38. By now I am sure Bobby Jindal has taken all of the criticism to heart and will not ever “mess” up again in front of Laura Ingraham. She does tend to be snarky, but Jindal is a grown up and he will do better. He has been all over TV for the past week and the speech was just one of his appearances. He was brilliant on Meet the Press and was all over talk radio on Wednesday. His message hasn’t changed. Keep on talking Bobby. In a couple of months we will be more able to hear, appreciate and understand what you are saying. Right now, not so much. The Obama glow is still pretty strong, but it is beginning to fade.

  39. I haven’t found the right mistress, huh?

    Never said “mistress”.
