Will Hannity Get the Message?

sean_hannitySometimes phone calls and e-mails just aren’t enough to get your point across - especially when the people to whom they are directed make a point of not returning the calls or even acknowledging the e-mails. While it’s bad enough to get the cold shoulder from the Drive-Bys and the liberals, it’s especially galling when one of your own - at least someone you thought was one of your own - does the same thing.

I’m referring of course to L’Affaire Hannity, a kerfuffle in which radio talker and Fox pundit Sean Hannity now finds himself after first proclaiming his neutrality regarding the Republican primary in New Jersey and then, last week, interviewing Chris Christie (who was accompanied by Rudy Giuliani) on his Fox TV show. Christie and Giuliani both blasted the Lonegan plan for economic recovery in New Jersey by repeating the shibboleth that it will raise taxes on 70% of state residents and is therefore not a conservative Republican plan. By all accounts, Hannity appears to have swallowed the Christie campaign’s disinformation hook, line and sinker.

The problem is that Hannity claims he is a conservative - not a Republican - and so those of us who support Steve Lonegan for Governor are understandably both puzzled and troubled by this interview, especially because it does not appear as if Hannity has taken the time or the trouble to acquaint himself with Lonegan’s platform or the details of his proposal.

Shortly after Christie’s appearance the Lonegan campaign tried to reach Hannity’s people to ask for equal time. No luck so far. Dozens of campaign volunteers called both his radio and cable shows as well as sent dozens of e-mails imploring him to give equal time to Mayor Lonegan. So far, not a single response.

This just isn’t right, folks - especially because Hannity is supposed to be a champion of true conservatism and an ardent opponent of RINOs. Is it possible that Christie’s people have completely bamboozled Sean into believing that Christie is a Reagan conservative?

Others have speculated that Hannity is a faux conservative whose only love is better ratings and Ruth’s Chris steaks.

Like I said in a previous post: Say it ain’t so, Sean…say it ain’t so!

It looks like Sean Hannity will have the chance to do so this evening. Mike Proto at ConservativesWithAttitude, has the details (scroll down to the ninth post, dated May 25)

According to Lonegan campaign volunteers, there is a planned protest [tonight] against none other than Sean Hannity. Lonegan supporters are upset - and rightfully so - that Hannity had Chris Christie on his TV show last week and has not extended an invitation to Mayor Lonegan. As I posted last week, Hannity has claimed neutrality with regards to state primaries in the past — yet in this case he has hypocritically given Mr. Christie free air time on national TV while shutting out his closest rival.

So, in what I am sure will be an unprecedented event [tonight] - CONSERVATIVE REPUBLICANS will be in New York City, at Fox headquarters, protesting Sean Hannity.

If you want to join this protest here is the information:

Tuesday, May 26, located at 1211 Avenue of the Americas (a/k/a 6th Ave.), between 47th & 48th Streets, beginning at 7:00 p.m.

One of the organizers e-mailed me to relate the following helpful information from the NYPD:

I got a call from NYDP’s Officer Mike Dugan. We do not need a permit to demonstrate as it is our First Amendment Right. However, these are the rules:

No sound systems i.e. Microphones and/or bullhorns.  PLEASE bring your video cameras.

No wood, therefore simply bring your Lonegan signs sans any metal or wood.

Officer Dugan gave me the layout of the FOX News building. We are to stay on the curbside of the flowerpots. Moving to the other side, which is private property, may cause warnings to which we must heed. We’ll stay where he said.

He said that Code Pink and other groups will be demonstrating near Radio City since Karl Rove will be there.

Wear your Lonegan T-shirts/caps and bring signs.

I strongly urge any citizens of Manly’s Republic who are in the area to participate in the protest. I will certainly keep everyone up to date on events as they unfold. It might not be a bad idea to check out FOX News and perhaps, some of the competitive Drive-Bys for coverage of the event.

I’m hopeful that Sean Hannity does not get the wrong impression from this event: the people who will be out there in front of Fox studios are faithful listeners of his radio program and often watch his show on Fox. They aren’t going there to protest him so much as urge him to be fair and balanced.

  1. Uuuugh!

Just seeing the title, made me run for more coffee!!

I’ll be back when the caffiene kicks in!!

  2. It’s sad that we have to go to this measure to get fairness from our own party.

  3. Maybe Olbermann will cover the protest for you Manly.

    Fight on!!!

  4. So, has Hannity moved left to hang out with Frum, Brooks, Noonan, baby Buckley and, Won’t?

Maybe Alan Combes needs to come back and yank his chain to the right a bit…

  5. Well I tried the caffeine route and it’s just not kicking in.

So therefore I still don’t have any solution…except maybe “tarring & feathering” every political pundit from the Beltway north on the Atlantic seaboard, exceptions of course would be Mark Levin, M. Stein, Paul Mulshine and a few others I can’t think of or don’t know of.

This whole charade and parade with Sean Hannity is pure unadulterated bullshit! And utterly unnecessary!

This is freedom of speech run amok due to the lack of sufficient equal caliber intelligent challengers and truth tellers exercising their right to rebut even the “holy white elephants” in the room!!

Sean Hannity right now, needs to be seriously taken to the woodshed for this bullshit and I mean big time!
He needs to be challenged by some other A-lister pundit live on the air (and no I don’t mean Mike Gallagher or Hugh Hewitt) and yes I mean you, Rush Limbaugh.

Other than that this is what is needed, as I see it:
A list of grievances and deviations - by pundits - from the bedrock principles that built, established, grew, and survived for 232 years and made this country the greatest place on earth for people to pursue greater and better things than any other people in the world, even though as Rush says, our DNA is no different.

If something or somebody doesn’t do this then I will probably just go to an excluded tropical Island - let this country go to hell in a handbasket - and call it good.

    And I’m NOT kidding.

  6. go to an excluded tropical Island

    How will you get in?

  7. Sean Hannity and many others like him are there for the ratings and the compensations that comes with high ratings. I can’t stand the guy and his “you are a great American” bullshit. If anyone, Geraldo Rivera appears to make more sense than Hannity. Turn off you TV or switch from Fox to other channel at 9:00 PM. With lower ratings Mr. Hannity may learn some humility and boy! - he needs it.
And please don’t believe in his patriotism and conservatism. It’s all a big put on with a huge dollar sign $$$.

  8. Truth be told and however well-meaning he may be, Sean Hannity is not that economically smart except in a simplistic way. It’s easy to see how he could be bamboozled on the misrepresentation of the tax issue. I think that he could be schooled and open his studio to an oppositional point of view IF the details are explained to him clearly BEFORE the show.

The protesters need to be careful about how they express their unhappiness and why, so that the Dems don’t make hay over the gathering. Sean serves his purpose in enlightening those that aren’t as politically aware as we. He COULD be persuaded and be an advocate if approached with courtesy.
