The Rush to Dissemble Tour - Part 1
Wednesday night I had the pleasure of attending a town hall in Middletown sponsored by Rep. Rush Holt, Democrat Congressman from the 12th District in New Jersey. Rather than write a protracted analysis of the evening’s events, I thought it might be more appropriate to let the video camera do the talking. This time I had plenty of power and plenty of tape.
After my experience at the Frank Pallone town hall, I decided to head out for the Holt town hall much earlier - three hours earlier, in fact. When I arrived shortly after 4 PM, a few constituents had already begun to form a queue along the side of the building. Apparently, they learned as quickly as I did that the early bird gets the best nest at the town hall.
While I waited for rest of the angry mob to descend upon the Middletown Arts Center I spoke with the Chief of Police and the mayor of nearby Fairhaven. By the time I concluded the interviews, a substantial number of people began to show up and I took the opportunity to spend time with some of them.
By 5:30 PM there were well over 150 people on line with many more streaming in every minute. Shortly after 6 PM the crowd had swollen to well over 300 people and the police opened the doors, permitting the first 238 people to enter the building in groups of 20.
The event itself would be held in a small auditorium that sat 238 people. In front of the amphitheater-style seating was a hardwood floor roughly 25 feet wide that spanned the width of the room. In the center was a table flanked by the American flag and the state flag. On either side was a single row of chairs, one row for journalists and the other for various local dignitaries.
I’m troubled by the fact that Congressman Holt was unable to change the location of the event to accommodate more people. I suspect he was not so much unable but unwilling, as he figured that a larger crowd would mean proportionately more opponents of Obamacare and therefore greater opportunity to be humiliated. This appears to be a common tactic among Democrat legislators who deign to hold even a single town hall event.
No sooner had the seats begun to fill up than conversations became heated and turned into arguments - at one point culminating in a shouting match. Tempers were on edge - something the liberal left doesn’t seem to comprehend when they sniff in disdain at the “rudeness and crudeness” of the “dumber than a dining room table” people who raise their voices in fury.
What these Obamabots and liberal snobs better start learning and learning quickly is that for decades we conservatives have been the collective object of their scorn and ridicule. For decades we have seen our leaders trashed mercilessly at the hands of the biased, double-standard, Drive-By media. For decades we have watched our once great republic slowly degrade into a bloated welfare state - one for which we have been called upon to pay the bills. For decades we slumbered, but finally stirred, on April 15. It is now August. We are fully awake, fully pissed off and engaged in pitched battle for the heart and soul of this republic. The days of civility and bipartisanship are over.
Here’s a word of advice to the Liberals, statists, True Believers, Useful Idiots and other assorted Obamabots who labor under the self-righteous delusion that they and only they have the exclusive rights to vitriol and invective: paypack is an absolute, farking bitch and you will be getting it with thirty years’ interest.
After everyone calmed down, the Congressman made his entrance and everyone saluted the flag. Afterward, the mayor of Middletown introduced Bishop Riley - the Lutheran bishop of New Jersey. Everyone remained standing because we figured he was going to give a short prayer or benediction or whatever it is they call it.
Boy, were we wrong.
I was thankful I had a nearby electrical connection for juice and an extra video tape. This was going to be a loooooong night.
Stand by for Part 2 of the Rush to Dissemble Tour tomorrow.

I am a lutheran and this man is an embarrassment to my religion. If Martin Luther had been anything like this man he never would have started the Reformation. What a joke.
Please understand my comments were not meant to cast aspersion upon the Lutheran faith. I would have said the same thing had it been a Catholic bishop, an Episcopalian bishop or any other bishop.
The whole thing seemed so….creepy. I have no problem with any minister of the Christian faith or a rabbi of Judaism giving a benediction - that, after all, is what they are supposed to do.
But when they poke their noses in politics…THAT, my friend, is a different matter.
It does the heart good to see conservatives ralled up. They are no longer backing down. That passivity the GW Bush taught us so well has finally been flung from our character.
That bishop is a bishop of what? Heresy?
What a complete fuck-up.
What is with these leftist alledged bishops who think that destroying healthcare with a nationalized plan is helping people?
Fuckin heretics.
What??????????? No teleprompter !!!!!!
dem Congressmen hiding behind sick kids in Children’s hospitals, 2 rows of bussed in union thugs, IN union meeting halls, at $25 per person entry fee Chamber of Commerce meetings and now, behind a clergyman…
Shows how much the chickensheeeeits believe in this LATEST cog in the march to socialism…
Each and everyone of these traitors to their oath have to be voted out of office…not just the other guys, YOUR guys too!!!!
Wait a freakin’ minute! I thought there was supposed to be a separation of Church and State.
Damn, I forgot- that is only for those that believe in a “Church.” The left can do whatever they want, as long as it benefits them.
But not for long- the chickens have certainly come home to roost.
Thank you for doing such a FANTASTIC job covering the NJ townhalls. I know I can come to your blog for the latest political news and excellent commentary.
After watching the video of the minister speak my head is going to explode due to hypocrisy overload. I wanted to scream at my laptop.
I hope Rush Holt doesn’t think the ploy of hiding behind a liberal clergy person for cover will do anything but make him look like the weasel and shill he is. I the crowd gave him a good grilling after that performance.
Manly, thank you for your video work and this site. I was very angry before the meeting and I am more so no. I am hoping to have a face to face with Rush Holt as he clearly doesn’t understand the impact of the healthcare reform bill.
You are a true patriot and I am proud that you express your opinions here. Keep up the good and needed work.
What the? If my priest spoke about politics, the whole church would be up in arms. They wouldn’t stand for it. I really don’t care if he was Republican or Democrat, his job is promote religious values not political values. I wonder what his parishoners are saying now.
