The Jersey Two-Step

texas-two-stepRecently the NJ State legislature moved to legalize gay marriage in the state before Chris Christie assumes office in January and they did it with the help of four RINOs. While the official prevailing wisdom holds that this was done to ensure that The Fat Man won’t veto the bill if it comes to his desk in January, my feeling is that a deal was struck between Christie and his RINO cronies in the legislature.

I suspect it went something like this: “Look fellas, I’m spoon-feeding the Republican base a pile of bullshit about me being pro-life and pro-traditional marriage when I couldn’t care less about either and the last thing I want is to be confronted with a bill that the conservative fringe expects me to veto but the Democrat majority in the legislature, the unions and the urban areas will be furious if I vetoed. So do me a favor and help the Dems pass it before I take office. That way I won’t have to worry about it.”

And thus it will come to pass - the Jersey Two-Step.

If the Hudson Reporter is accurate, it appears another version of the Jersey Two-Step is making its way onto the political dance floor:

In what could become the highest profile game of political musical chairs in the state, Democratic sources claim they are considering replacing U.S. Sen. Frank Lautenberg with outgoing Gov. Jon Corzine.

It would work like this: Corzine would resign prior to January, when Republican Christopher Christie takes over as governor. A Corzine resignation would allow state Sen. President Richard Codey to serve as acting governor. Then Lautenberg would retire from the U.S. Senate, leaving Codey to name Corzine to fill the seat until a special election.

This is similar to a move made when Corzine resigned the senate to become governor, when he named then Rep. Bob Menendez to fill his own seat.

The move would prevent Christie from being able to name a replacement for the aging Lautenberg and would give Corzine a leg up as a senate incumbent in the special election next November.

Got that? From the Senate to the Governor’s Mansion and back to the Senate again - at least until a special election is held. For the time being, instead of a decrepit fossil liberal Democrat anxious to retire to enjoy what few years he has left, New Jersey will be represented in the Senate by a very healthy, relatively young and reliably liberal Democrat.  Easy-peasy-lemon-sqeezy.

It’s called the Jersey Two-Step. Thank God I don’t dance.

  1. Welll. Isn’t that special. Whatever happened to government of the people, by the people, and for the people?

  2. Kj,
Don’t you know that we have to do this for the wittle people with sensitive feelings here?
Yea…those people. They have to be governed too.

    Welcome to New Jursey….

I agree. You’d like it here!

  5. Y’know, it puzzles me why the wishes of a small radical percentage of less than 4 % of our nation’s population should have the right to change the meaning of a word which for centuries has meant the union of a man and a woman.

  6. If they legalize same-sex marriage, I’ll move there and lobby for polygamy so I can marry all the wonderful single ladies there. How would I choose with so many prospects. Better to marry them all just to make sure.

    :)

  7. Constitutional Amendment to make marriage ONLY between a man and a woman.

Let’s unite with the Muslims on this issue.

  8. Gays can have civil unions - the state gets their fees just as in a marriage, and the insurance companies and other businesses can treat them the same as a married couple.

But that’s not good enough for them. They want it to be marriage. Why? Because once it’s forced through, you can bet your life that some gay couple will walk into a Catholic church or other church that does not support gay marriage and DEMAND they get married, and when the Church says “no” they will be dragged into court and told that they have to marry them or pay a fine, or shut its doors. The Catholic church did not mess around in Mass. when it came to gay couples adopting kids. They said no and the state said too bad, so the Church said “fine, we won’t offer the service to anyone”.

It’s a trapdoor to further strangle religion’s influence on people.
