PelosiCare - Parsing the Ugly Details

mike-penceCourtesy of Congressman Mike Pence and others, the details of Nancy Pelosi’s atrocious health care “reform” legislation are becoming as hideously clear as the evidence of plastic surgery and botox treatment on her pinched face. And the timing couldn’t be any more perfect: it’s All Hallow’s Eve.

This reading guide includes what we have uncovered in our initial reading of the Pelosi health “reform” legislation (H.R. 3962) introduced by House Democrats.

Page 94—Section 202(c) prohibits the sale of private individual health insurance policies, beginning in 2013, forcing individuals to purchase coverage through the federal government

Page 110—Section 222(e) requires the use of federal dollars to fund abortions through the government-run health plan—and, if the Hyde Amendment were ever not renewed, would require the plan to fund elective abortions

Page 111—Section 223 establishes a new board of federal bureaucrats (the “Health Benefits Advisory Committee”) to dictate the health plans that all individuals must purchase —and would likely require all Americans to subsidize and purchase plans that cover any abortion

Page 211—Section 321 establishes a new government-run health plan that, according to non-partisan actuaries at the Lewin Group, would cause as many as 114 million Americans to lose their existing coverage

Page 225—Section 330 permits—but does not require—Members of Congress to enroll in government-run health care

Page 255—Section 345 includes language requiring verification of income for individuals wishing to receive federal health care subsidies under the bill—while the bill includes a requirement for applicants to verify their citizenship, it does not include a similar requirement to verify applicants’ identity, thus encouraging identity fraud for undocumented immigrants and others wishing to receive taxpayer-subsidized health benefits

Page 297—Section 501 imposes a 2.5 percent tax on all individuals who do not purchase “bureaucrat-approved” health insurance— the tax would apply on individuals with incomes under $250,000, thus breaking a central promise of then-Senator Obama’s presidential campaign

Page 313—Section 512 imposes an 8 percent “tax on jobs” for firms that cannot afford to purchase “bureaucrat-approved” health coverage ; according to an analysis by Harvard Professor Kate Baicker, such a tax would place millions “at substantial risk of unemployment”—with minority workers losing their jobs at twice the rate of their white counterparts

Page 336—Section 551 imposes additional job-killing taxes, in the form of a half-trillion dollar “surcharge,” more than half of which will hit small businesses ; according to a model developed by President Obama’s senior economic advisor, such taxes could cost up to 5.5 million jobs

Page 520—Section 1161 cuts more than $150 billion from Medicare Advantage plans, potentially jeopardizing millions of seniors’ existing coverage

Page 733—Section 1401 establishes a new Center for Comparative Effectiveness Research; the bill includes no provisions preventing the government-run health plan from using such research to deny access to life-saving treatments on cost grounds, similar to Britain’s National Health Service, which denies patient treatments costing more than $35,000

Page 1174—Section 1802(b) includes provisions entitled “TAXES ON CERTAIN INSURANCE POLICIES” to fund comparative effectiveness research, breaking Speaker Pelosi’s promise that “We will not be taxing [health] benefits in any bill that passes the House,” and the President’s promise not to raise taxes on families with incomes under $250,000

I have no doubt this and other analyses like it will be making the Internet rounds with great fury over the next week or so. I’m just as certain that Pelosi, Reid and like-minded oligarchs will simply shut off their fax machines, leave their phones off the hook and simply dump any e-mails that do not support what they are trying to do to this country. It is utterly pointless to waste time and effort trying to get through to these people because nothing apart from a noose and a nearby tree branch will change their minds.

But all is not lost: I recommend concentrating our efforts instead on both wavering RINOs and so-called Blue Dog Democrats - especially after the November 3 election.

In the case of RINOs, remind them what fate will await them if they even hint at supporting PelosiCare. If Chris Christie wins the gubernatorial election, remind these RINOs that it would not have been possible without the support of Uber-Reaganite Steve Lonegan. If Christie loses the election, remind them that the very same fate awaits them in November of 2010 - only the defeat will come in the primaries.

As for the Blue Dogs, explain to them that if they stand against this abomination they will at least have a chance of winning their state primary next year. (What you won’t tell them is that even if they survive the Democrat primary, they will still lose in November).

I suspect that Pelosi and Reid will do a significant amount of cajoling, arm-twisting and outright bribing over the next seven days as they force more conservative and moderate Democrats into line for the vote.

nooseBe prepared for Reid to use the so-called “nuclear option” if necessary and ram the final bill through using the reconciliation process.

When that happens - and it will happen - I recommend that, in addition to guns and ammo, you stock up on plenty of rope and learn how to tie a noose.

  1. If you don’t think God has a sense of humor, how do you explain Congress?

  2. It is just as we suspected from the start. They know they must deliver a debilitating blow with this one. The clock is ticking.

Like Rush said yesterday, for all their scheming and for all the “perfect” deliverance of their plans, they are still miscalculating the anger of the people. As history has proven, it is always the “little” miscalculations which ultimately destroy the power mongers.

    Nice noose…

  3. There was a reason Pelosi had an invitation-only Presser to introduce this garbage the other day. Her, Reid, and rest of the adminstation’s supporters are running scared. They know that people are getting mad, but they have greatly underestimated how many people are mad and how intense America’s anger is.

  4. Where is Micheal “Spineless” Steele to show some anger, when we need him?

  5. Where is Micheal “Spineless” Steele to show some anger, when we need him? Mad Dog on October 31, 2009 at 3:22 pm

He’s probably still busy tryin’ to get all up in the Dems’ face with that pathetic website. Priorities, you know.

Steele’s got all the timing of a Laurel and Hardy skit.

  6. Everything AND the kitchen sink…let’s see what the “Blue dogs” do with this load of crap…

Oh, and tort reform…yep, states can set things in motion BUT if they actually do something as horrid as, say, “capping damages”, that will be a no no…

  7. 1990+ pages to cover, at best, 2% of those under 65…

Control is the object of Lugosi’s eye…
