Gee…How Did THAT Happen?

apple-rotten1If we weren’t on the verge of complete economic collapse, the predictability of it all would actually be funny - along the lines of turning a recovering alcoholic loose in a brewery and then asking ‘what could possibly go wrong?’ And it always boils down to the same phrase uttered always with a shocked, stupified expression.

Gee…how did THAT happen?

New Yorkers are fleeing the state and city in alarming numbers — and costing a fortune in lost tax dollars, a new study shows.

More than 1.5 million state residents left for other parts of the United States from 2000 to 2008, according to the report from the Empire Center for New York State Policy. It was the biggest out-of-state migration in the country.

The vast majority of the migrants, 1.1 million, were former residents of New York City — meaning one out of seven city taxpayers moved out.

“The Empire State is being drained of an invaluable resource — people,” the report said.

Oh puhleeeeez. As far as government bureaucrats are concerned, people are nothing more than a source of votes and revenue - the former from the 50% who pay little or no taxes and the latter from the 50% who carry nearly 100% of the tax burden.

Unfortunately for the statists, too many golden geese have been slaughtered and the survivors are retreating to states where there aren’t as many foxes.

What’s worse is that the families fleeing New York are being replaced by lower-income newcomers, who consequently pay less in taxes.

Overall, the ex-New Yorkers earn about 13 percent more than those who moved into the state, the study found.

And it should be no surprise that the city — and Manhattan in particular — suffered the biggest loss in terms of taxable income.

The average Manhattan taxpayer who left the state earned $93,264 a year. The average newcomer to Manhattan earned only $72,726.

That’s a difference of $20,538, the highest for any county in the state. Staten Island was second, with a $20,066 difference.

It all adds up to staggering loss in taxable income. During 2006-2007, the “migration flow” out of New York to other states amounted to a loss of $4.3 billion.

The study used annual US Census reports, which showed which states had increased population, combined with Internal Revenue Service data, which show which states, cities and counties had lost people.

While New York City and the state were the losers, the Sunshine and Garden States were winners. more than 250,000 New Yorkers who lived in and around the city fled to Florida. Another 172,000 city taxpayers ended up in New Jersey.

*laughing out loud* I wonder how those suckers who moved to New Jersey are feeling, now that their tax rates will exceed New York’s and the economy of the Garden State will collapse in less than two years.  How’s that hope and change working our for you folks?

Why all the moving vans?

The center, part of the conservative Manhattan Institute, blames the state’s high cost of living and high taxes.

Heh…try getting the liberals and statists to believe it. Actually, they do believe it, but their lust for power long ago squelched any cry their own consciences might have made in objection.

The study also revealed surprising details about how city residents moved from borough to borough.

Manhattan lost 64,480 taxpayers, and more than half — 34,383 — went to The Bronx.

Brooklyn lost 68,951 taxpayers — including 43,688 who went to Staten Island.

This truly puzzles me. It’s the equivalent of letting an 18th century physician desanguinate you from your left arm instead of your right arm.

The study also had some good news. The peak loss of New Yorkers was in 2005, when nearly 250,000 residents left the state. But last year, only 126,000 left, the lowest figure over the eight-year period.

That’s kind of like saying to the captain of a sinking ship that fewer people have abandoned it - only because most of them already have done so.

Way to go, New York. Much like New Jersey, you are going to learn your lesson the hard way.

  1. Gawd! I hope they are not coming here

Hey, all you exfoliating New Yawkers. To get to Oklahoma or Texas, you must come through Arkansas, a beeaautifull state! Why don’t you stop there and admire the scenery. You might like it enough to stay and not come here. You won’t even have to wear shoes.

Yes, send them to my home…. I’m an excellent shot, and have plenty of ammunition. Plus, there is plenty of open forest (beautiful scenery for them to fertilize).

….Or they can keep on trucking and live.

I have a predilection for southern gals.

These moving patterns indicate one thing to me: California is not the only state in the union comprised of a majority of idiots.

That particular scenery and fertilization is reserved for us (the intelligent, God fearing, America loving patriots). The tree hugging hippie liberal idiots can finally do something worth while for the foliage they espouse to treasure so dearly…. fertilize it.

  8. OCB,

We’re re-routing them dang yankees down I-44, through Missouri, and right into the Tulsa area…

    Have fun…

  9. gohawgs - thats OK. When they hit Tulsa, we’ll have ol” Oral lay hands on them and cure them . One loud “HEAL!” ought to do the trick.

  10. How many do think will leave NJ when they realize that Christie is a repeat of the other “Christie” (Whitman)? There are way too many that think he will solve our problems. But I still cannot deny that he’s a tad better than Corzine.

The difference between hitting a brick wall at 50 mph (Christie) or 75 mph (Corzine).

  12. More taxes leads to less revenue…It’s a paradox that dems/libs can’t fathom…

btw, I rather not have a dem drive me anywhere at any speed…

  13. I know Manly but why give it to Corzine? I just can’t do it. As much as it pains me to vote for Christie. I hear that even Steve Lonegan is giving the marching orders to vote for Christie. Apparently they sat down together and ironed some things out. I have no idea what that means but it came from a friend who’s friends with someone close to him. This friend of mine was going to write Steve in until yesterday when she informed me about Steve’s suggestion. Of course now I can’t wait to hear Steve at the tea party on Sunday in Jackson.

I guess I’m too scared of what Obama and Corzine will do together and I have 3 kids that need to have a future in NJ. Remember Ross Perot? Writing in another name is, in essence, that situation all over again. When Corzine wins, do you really believe the GOP will get any message from that? They expect it from NJ. One thing is obvious, the Democrats will.

  14. Said it before and I’ll say it again…

When all your operations are based off of taking the money from the rich people, eventually you run out of rich people.
