A Time to Choose

The time is November 1861. The Civil War has begun. 42 year old Julia Ward Howe is visiting Washington, D.C. with her husband and watches Union soldiers during the day and their campfires at night.

Lying awake, early in the morning, she pens a song set to the tune John Brown’s Body, sung about the famous abolitionist. The song, The Battle Hymn of the Republic, becomes one of history’s most beloved hymns, and is sung at the funerals of Winston Churchill, Robert Kennedy, Richard Nixon, and Ronald Reagan. One of the verses poignantly states,

In the beauty of the lilies Christ was born across the sea,
With a glory in His bosom that transfigures you and me:
As He died to make men holy, let us die to make men free;
While God is marching on.

Fast forward to February 2009. The location is B. Bernice Young School in Burleigh Township, N.J. Author Charisse Carney-Nunes, a classmate at Harvard of President Obama, who wrote the children’s book “I am Barack Obama” is visiting. In honor of the visit, one of the teachers writes new lyrics. One is to the classic children’s hymn Jesus Loves the Little Children. Some of the words are:

He said red, yellow, black or white,
All are equal in his sight.
Mmm, mmm, mm!
Barack Hussein Obama

The other song is written to the tune of the aforementioned Battle Hymn of the Republic. Some of the words of this new song are:

Hooray, Mr. President, we honor your great plans,
To make this country’s economy No. 1 again. …
So continue, Mr. President, we know you’ll do the trick.

That little bit of musical history brings us to the present. Tuesday, four Chicago teens were charged in the beating death of Derrion Albert, a sophomore honor roll student at Christian Fenger Academy High School. Albert, a 16 year old honors student, was walking to a bus stop when he got caught up in the middle of a gang fight. He was beaten to death with railroad ties.

Also, presently, Liberals in Hollywood and elsewhere in America are upset that Roman Polanski, a child rapist who fled before sentencing, has been arrested and will be brought to justice

So, where am I going with this? I’m reminded of the words of a couple of famous men.

“Our Constitution is designed for a moral and religious people. It is wholly inadequate for any other.” - John Adams

“Once abolish the God, and the government becomes the God.” - G. K. Chesterton

Americans are engaged in a struggle for the direction of this country. The choice is between a European Socialist type of country that embraces moral equivalency and a Cradle to Grave Government takeover of our lives, and a Free Republic that embraces the Judeo-Christian morals and ethics that our Founding Fathers and heroes since have pledged their lives and sacred honor to defend. It’s time for Americans to choose. I choose the country that my father waded in through gunfire on the beaches in Normandy to defend. What say you?

I am simultaneously rendered speechless yet not at all surprised.

I’m wondering if it’s unhealthy to be this cynical this soon.

    *eats*

  2. There is really only one choice and it is the way of our founding fathers.

Unfortunately, the government schools and the welfare state have manage to put a majority of the American people into a political coma and those particular citizens have been rendered incapable of making a decision. They have chosen the path to destruction by default.

  3. KJ,

The choice is quite clear. We have to win back our country one heart at a time…with humility and grace, we must fight the good fight of faith. We must INFLUENCE those around us, not let them influence us. I strongly believe in the power of intercessory prayer, that is praying fervently for the needs of others. That said, faith without works is dead, so we must be active, holding firmly to the principles of liberty.

Indeed, when considering the origins of this country, it brings to mind the spiritual ramifications of rebellion. This country was founded by rebels. Indeed, we take pride in our rebellion. I wonder since our God is God of order, how that fit into His plan. These are just some thoughts running in my head, thanks for allowing me to muse.

You have to remember that our founding fathers didn’t rebel against God, to the contrary, they rebeled against a government that was actin in the place of God. Given that, they were acting within the perfect will of God, which is why God was with them and they won the Revolutionary War.

    - “If God be with us, then who can be against us?”

I would submit to you that God is with the majority of us and therefore we will win on that basis.

  5. God may be on the side of liberty as a righteous cause, or God might be on the side of tyranny as a test of faith. As the believers say, God’s will is beyond understanding.

I’m for liberty. If God is not on _my_ side personally, I hope that others who share my interest have God’s support.

On a humorous note, I used Goodsearch on the words “gods will” and noticed a business link:

    Found: God’s Will
Find Found: God’s Wills at Great Prices.

  6. Agree, Agree, agree

  7. If we are not willing to take it to a shooting war in the end after Obama/Pelosi/Reid attempt to silence our right to free speech, and take our firearms or seize control of the economy via passing healthcare legislation IF it has not been written yet, then…

we have already lost because they know we ultimately will not rebel to their tyranny.

  8. If we are not willing to take it to a shooting war…

If it comes to that, Sapwolf…
In the unambiguous words of my favorite “Firefly” character, Captain Malcolm Reynolds, “I aim to misbehave.”

If there are trenches to be dug and ramparts to be manned, I only hope that I am shoulder to shoulder with those whose passion is equal to yours.

As to tyranny, I Will Not Submit!
