A Flag in Distress

According to the U.S. Flag Code, “The flag should never be displayed with the union down, except as a signal of dire distress in instances of extreme danger to life or property.” I’d say we’re in a situation of dire distress, wouldn’t you? 

After all:

1) Our government has been hijacked by a group of Marxist Chicago thugs bent on “fundamentally changing” our country.

2) Any opposition to the current administration is deemed racist hate speech instead of what it is:  patriotic dissent specifically protected in the Bill of Rights.

3) Our national defense is compromised because of this administration’s demonstrated weakness in repeated apologizing, “dissing” of long-time allies while befriending dictators, prostrating to the Saudi King and Japanese Emperor, refusing to make a decision regarding the requested troop surge in Afghanistan, refusing  to label Nidal Hasan a terrorist and, perhaps most disturbing, trying foreign terrorist military combatants  in a U.S. criminal court – where they will enjoy all the Constitutional safeguards afforded American citizens.

4) Our economy is being destroyed and will be in ruins for years to come as the administration - together with the Democrat-controlled Congress - has deliberately driven our debt into the trillions, stolen our hard-earned tax dollars for political payback and insists on replacing capitalism with socialism—or worse—by taking over the financial sector, the automobile industry, energy and health care -  all of which will force the taxpayers (those who are still employed) into economic slavery.

5) The judicial branch is becoming more and more liberal and activist; these men in black believe they can legislate their warped, anti-Christian, anti-marriage, anti-family, anti-life worldview rather than interpreting existing law.

The Federal government has clearly overstepped its Constitutional bounds.  Article II, Section 4 of the U.S. Constitution clearly states that “The President, Vice President and all civil officers of the United States, shall be removed from office on impeachment for, and conviction of, treason, bribery, or other high crimes and misdemeanors.”  But Article I, Section 2 says, “The House of Representatives…shall have the sole power of impeachment.”  I can’t see impeachment of the President or any other “civil officer” happening with the Pelosi-controlled House.

What are our options?  For starters: repentance and a return to God, praying that it is not too late to turn back this godless, mindless descent into tyranny and despair.  From there we must work diligently to elect a conservative majority in the House of Representatives and the Senate.

But if this administration finds a way to block the 2010 election with a manufactured “crisis” calling for martial law—or worse—then we may find ourselves obliged to flesh out what the Founders wrote in the Declaration of Independence:

“We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness. — That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed, — That whenever any Form of Government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the Right of the People to alter or to abolish it, and to institute new Government, laying its foundation on such principles and organizing its powers in such form, as to them shall seem most likely to effect their Safety and Happiness. Prudence, indeed, will dictate that Governments long established should not be changed for light and transient causes; and accordingly all experience hath shewn that mankind are more disposed to suffer, while evils are sufferable than to right themselves by abolishing the forms to which they are accustomed. But when a long train of abuses and usurpations, pursuing invariably the same Object evinces a design to reduce them under absolute Despotism, it is their right, it is their duty, to throw off such Government, and to provide new Guards for their future security.”

At the rate the federal government is expanding in both size and scope of power, our list of grievances will be as compelling as that enumerated in the Declaration.  It is obvious  this administration “evinces a design” to reduce us under absolute Despotism: that much is evident in its takeover of the banking, insurance and automotive industries as well as its intention to nationalize our health care industry. At this point we are left only with prayer and hard work to avert this terrible fate.

I pray that bloodshed can be avoided, but if things don’t change for the better and more of our vanishing freedoms are lost, we may very well be facing another Civil War.  If that happens, then we must all summon every ounce of courage and fortitude to become the vanguard of liberty.  We can’t allow all the blood that was shed by patriots over the last 234 years to have been shed in vain, nor can we allow future generations to be enslaved because we were fearful of a tyrannical government.

  1. Should the Senate proceed to taking the government take over of health care to the floor for debate, I am sure it will pass. I am wondering why they are even going to have a debate since we are all to accept what Nancy, Harry and the One want. But my quandry is, if this monstrosity should pass, then it will only involve taxing us for it, not really implementing it until after the 2012 election. So that would give us 3 years to try to block implementation. Of course that would mean we would have to have a veto proof majority in 2010, which is unlikely. I do think it is more likely for the current occupant of the White House to be removed in 2012 than it is to get 67% of the Senate and House. So does anyone know if we could put the brakes on the health care monstrosity just before it is implemented? I know it would be awful to pay the higher taxes and premiums for 4 years for absolutley nothing, but if we just thought we could suffer those four years and then kill the bill it would offer us some hope,

  2. The barbarians have blown the gate wide open. Our country is under siege. We all need to pray and be vigilant. All Conservatives saw something bad coming before the election. That is when I joined our Colonel up on the ramparts. The size and scope of the brazeness of this attack, however, is what has everyone shocked to some degree. Americans are begining to fight back. We must not lose our resolve. Great blog, Kate.

  3. Winston’s Mom - I’m afraid a bill laid is a bill played. Once healthcare passes it is here for good. The federal government bureaucrats, including the congress crooks, never, I say never, rescind any entitlement program. Proof of this is we now have nine supreme court justices, cabinet defartments of education, environmant, health, welfare, transportation, FEMA, and 37 “czars” and one “augustus”. We have rules established without publication and no comment periods in spite of congressional directives. To the socialists, our form of government and constitution is a tool to be used to enslave us. To the bureaucrats, any program reduction endangers their rice bowls. There is no difference between any government bureacrat and any union thug. In fact, many are both.

    Margaret Thatcher retrenched from socialism for a bit, but it has all since been lost. I really fear, as i think Manly does too, the only way we are going to have any country that is familar to us is to implement hemp and white oak justice.

    Sam Adams did a LOT of writing to inform and inspire people to action. He’s the one who inspired me to begin writing “to make a difference” and I’m still writing over 600 letters (so far) to elected officials and other doofuses since April 15th. Since I’m 51 years old and have incurable cancer, I’m doing what I can for the cause. What are YOU doing, rbm?

    Great post. I feel the same way. I also believe that our government has been hijacked by a bunch of lunitics who are turning our governmet into a tyrannical force. I have been writing and e-mailing all democratic reps constantly to try to help put the kibosh on this healthcare bill, but it does not appear that they are listening. So, I guess it’s time for a new approach. Perhaps a nationwide tax revolt?

    You are a brave soul. I am also very afraid of what lies ahead with regard to violence that may be inevitable. Many of our neighbors avoid us, believing they will not have to confront this issue. We’ve lost friends because of our opinions but I fear they will be some of the last to awaken and it may take this civil war to make that happen.

    I took my son to the dentist last week and overheard the receptionist talking about getting her eyebrows done and bringing her daughter to get her nails done and then complaining about how they do her daughter’s nails. It really made me realize how unimportant the daily trials and tribulations of life are today. They won’t matter the slightest without our country the way we know it - not the way Obama is tranforming it.

    Hopefully, most of us will be prepared and not have to go into panic mode, although we will all be afraid.

    We’ll keep trying to defeat them peacefully as long as we can. In the meantime, we’re praying for our country and you as well. Thanks for your courage. God bless you.

    For many of us these days, just surviving is the most noble fight of all. For every George Washington dodging bullets on a battlefield there is a Betsy Ross at home sewing flags. For every Nathan Hale there is a Benedict Arnold. For every Sam Adams there is a John Adams - and an Abigail Adams.

    All are doing what they can in their own way.

  15. rbm, I am very sorry about your wife. I’m still hoping to be a trailblazer. Somebody’s got to be “first,” after all.

    That depends on how you define “fighting.” Right now we’re all fighting a war of ideas, trying to wake people up to what is actually happening. I’m sure you, like the rest of us, have been doing what USED to work in the past–calling, writing, protesting.

    This enemy is so brazen and yet smart, like a fox. (Not an arctic one, Col. Rash.) They have been planning this coup for a long, long time and know exactly what they are doing. We average folks who actually make the country work have been going about our business, not even thinking the way these thugs do. We obey the laws, follow the rules, and the snakes in DC use that against us!

    Right now our greatest weapon is truth and the rule of law. Sadly, it may not be enough, since the media and the DOJ are also against us. Which always brings me back to the Declaration and the part that says, “But when a long train of abuses and usurpations, pursuing invariably the same object evinces a design to reduce them under absolute despotism, it is their right, it is their duty, to throw off such government, and to provide new guards for their future security.”

    That “throwing off” may ultimately require armed conflict, if there is no other way. I’m still praying for a peaceful way to restore the Constitution.

    That’s why pledging our lives, our fortunes (albeit shrinking daily) and our sacred honor is so important, and do all we can to help elect conservatives in 2010–giving money and time to those candidates, even in other states.

    One locust hitting a semi truck will go “splat” but millions flying together with one purpose will run the truck off the road. :)
